Breezy Beaches, Mountain Villages and Barraquito's ......... "The Reef" !!!

|

Hola Mis Amigos

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while - after what was a pretty hectic period for both of us work wise, we headed over to "The Reef" (our little place in Tenerife) for a couple of weeks and are just back ....... just what the Doctor ordered :)

We have now pretty much done all the work we plan to do to the place ......

As you might have guessed, I asked Stuart to do the original artwork ..... and I have the perfect spot for a couple of Nicola's boat paintings too !!!

We changed the doors of the kitchen to plain ones this time and added new handles - the difference is subtle - sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the new ones .... it's a small space but surprisingly functional .....

The bedroom is also small but such a lovely bright room where you can literally stretch out in bed and look out to sea ...

We re-vamped the shower room too .....

But I guess this is primarily why we bought the wee place ...... this is the East facing balcony which is off the bedroom - perfect for lazy breakfasts and brunches .......

........ and this was taken from the West facing balcony which opens off the living room  ......

As it is a residential complex as opposed to" touristic", the pool is seldom busy - and in fact we often have it to ourselves in the morning .....

We had more time to explore the island this time and particularly loved heading up to the mountain villages and towns ....

This is the pretty village of Vilaflor - 1500 m above sea level and surrounded with pine forests, it is unbelievably tranquil.

There are some wonderful old restaurants in the mountain villages and towns  .....

This is a 200 year old converted Bodega in San Miguel - a sleepy little town which we love (about a 10 minute drive from us).

After a delicious lunch there, "Papa" - who has a touch of Hemingway about him, introduced us to his fave tipple known as a Barraquito - unique to Tenerife ...... and very nice it was :)

Back down on the coast, we love El Medano (walkable from us if you're feeling fit) - it's a real kite surfers paradise - this town has a really cool vibe ........

Luckily I ditched the groomed hairdo years ago :)  ......  this place is breeeeezeeeey - wonderfully invigorating !!!

Walking the other direction from our place along a beautiful rugged coastal route, is Las Galletas ....

This is a favourite cafe of ours for great espressos, pastries and a little bit of people watching ....

There is a lively marina in Las Galletas with fish stalls etc - sorry, I forgot to take a picture ...... and at the other, more quiet, end of town is an excellent fish restaurant where it's soooo easy to while away a few hours over a good lunch - the out door tables and chairs are literally a few feet from the shore .....

There's a special sort of "hush" I think when you are so close to the ocean - mesmerising in a way ....

A very short walk away from us is a beautiful new Marina ......

.......where you can enjoy a late afternoon Cerveza in Nina's (a little local bar) while watching folk tinker with their yachts ...... Nina hasn't a word of English and she has to stand on a little box to reach the beer pumps - but you are always greeted with the warmest of smiles :)

"Himself" is totally in his element with the golf ... he is officially a "Peanut" now - a group of like minded golfers who meet regularly .... he's happy as a sandpiper :) We have a perfect view of this iconic hole from the balcony.

And at the end of the day, it's so lovely to watch the sun go down and just chill ....

After all ............. those lazy lunches, cervezas and Barraquitos are hard work - honestly !!!! :) :)

We plan to rent out our apartment on a very limited basis and will also be looking into holiday swaps - if any of you think you might be interested, by all means drop me a note. At some stage soon we will be putting together a little website with more pictures and information - plus we are looking forward to exploring more places to visit over there - so watch this space !!!

Anyway - it's back to porridge for me - we have no less than three major hotel shoots coming up over the next three weeks - that should work off all those delicious lazy lunches !!!!

Adios for now

Marie x
