Some of you might have spotted that we've added quite a few new things to our bathroom section - and while working on all of that, it got me thinking !!
I happen to be one of those people who think that a lovely bathroom is verrry important - to me, it's all about striking the balance between functionality ..... starting with a good shower !!! But also creating a calm and tranquil space - somewhere to unwind at the end of a hectic day with a long soak in the bath.
And if it's been a bit of a particularly stressful day, I've been known to have a nice glass of 'fine wine' whilst enjoying my soak - the key, just so as you know, is to place said glass on a stool at the side of the bath so as you don't have to keep reaching down for it :) A little bit of DIY pampering is a serious business - it's important to get these things just right :)
Anyways - I thought it would be nice to share with you a few of my favourite bathrooms - ones we have shot for magazine features.
Some people love state of the art, fully tiled, bathrooms - guys seem to positively swoon when they see those wee TV's installed and set into the tiles at the end of the bath. I hope 'Himself' doesn't read this and start getting ideas !!!
Me - I personally love bathrooms with a bit of character and individuality - show me some painted T&G panelling, a few beams, lovely accessories - and I'm hooked !!
So without further ado here you go ......
This one was in a very pretty cottage we shot in County Antrim
I absolutely love the horizontal panelling and black and white floor tiles. Look how well the modern whb and wc work with the traditional claw foot bath. This demonstrates that the actual suite doesn't necessarily have to match !! The fishermens' lights add the perfect finishing touch.
This one is in a very stylish Victorian town house in Belfast .....
The mix of contemporary fittings with the original stained glass window and cast iron fireplace is superb I think. Tres chic !! A soak in the bath with a fire going - now that has to be the ultimate luxury !!!
This is a fab home we shot in Bath .....
The owner (a well known actress) tackled and project-managed what was a massive re-furb herself - when she took the brave decision to remove the ceiling, she was thrilled to reveal a perfect A Frame. Many of the fixtures, fittings and accessories were inexpensive finds in salvage yards.
A "bath in Bath" - get it :)
We shot this one in a stunning Tuscan farmhouse - what a working trip that was :) ......
I love every single thing about this bathroom - the painted ceiling beams, the mix of painted floor boards and terracotta tiles, the deep window, the charcoal painted bath - the sense of complete and utter calm ...... quite beautiful !!
Well, that's all for now folks - next week is going to be a busy one for us ...... we're shooting a fab boutique hotel in County Mayo - and also preparing to shoot the wonderful Dromoland Castle where we've worked before ..... is it just me or has 2014 kicked off in an extremely busy way - are we finally coming out of this awful recession ??? Here's hoping !!
Oh - and don't forget to place that glass of 'fine wine' on a stool beside the bath at the exact height for easy reaching !! I'm assuming I don't need to mention other essentials like scented candles, bath oil, fluffy towels, body lotion, soft music etc etc - as I said before Ladies ...... DIY pampering is indeed a serious business :)
